Strawberry Shakes

I have many vintage tablecloths featuring apples, pears, grapes, cherries and pineapples, but these, with strawberries, are two of my favourite (hmm, maybe not ... tablecloths just might be like one's children -- it's impossible to have a favourite):

This one is off-white, just 31 X 35 inches, and feels like a heavy cotton.

This much larger tablecloth has nine blocks of strawberries bordered by white blossoms. Although there are no holes, rips or stains, the somewhat faded colours prove that it was well-loved by the previous owner.

  1. Oh, does this bring back memories! Strawberry tablecloths were very popular when I was a little girl way back in...(not telling!) :-) Reminds me of visits to my grandmother's house, who loved strawberry and cherry patterns, especially on her tablecloths, dish towels, and kitchen curtains. Although ironing some of these beautiful "cotton" lovelies could be a daunting task (can you say, "lots and lots of spray starch??"), they were so gorgeous at a time when family's gathering *together* for a meal meant a lot more -- than it does these days.

  2. The cherry and strawberry patterns are still so popular, Georgie. Maybe we should all go back to using these colourful cloths for family dinners -- who wouldn't want to sit down at such a cheerful table to share the good news of their day?
